About Audi Sailing Sport

Welcome to Audi Sailing Sport!

German luxury carmaker, Audi, is a keen supporter of the sport of sailing in Australia at the highest level. Internationally, the brand is also a strong supporter of sailing events.

Linked by innovation in design, technology and performance, Audi is the largest sponsor of competitive sailing events in Australia.

“Constant innovation and fierce competition drives the best sailors to consistently challenge the old ways of doing things, and this is a perfect reflection of Audi’s 100-plus years of innovation,” said Audi Australia’s Joerg Hofmann.

The brand’s major annual regattas include the Audi Sydney Harbour Regatta, during Sydney Harbour Week each March, Audi Hamilton Island Race Week, which falls in August and Skandia Geelong Week, where Audi is the major car sponsor, in January each year.

Almost 1,000 boats and thousands of sailors compete in Audi-sponsored sailing events in these three regattas alone.

In partnership with the CYCA, Audi also sponsors the annual Audi Winter Series and two offshore regattas - from Sydney to Newcastle in March, and Sydney to the Gold Coast in  July. The brand also supports the CYCA’s Youth Sailing Academy, promoting the sport of sailing at a grass roots level, educating young sailors for the future.

Nationally, Audi is a major co-sponsor of the Australian Sailing Team AST in its quest for glory in Beijing.

Established in late 2006 and launched in 2007, the Audi IRC Australian Championship series is now in its second year. This strategic national series links the four main regattas that Audi sponsors each year. Endorsed by Yachting Australia and supported by host clubs the CYCA, Middle Harbour Yacht Club, Hamilton Island Yacht Club and Royal Geelong Yacht Club, the Audi IRC Australian championship is based on a handicapping system with a cumulative pointscore.

“The sailing world is known for engineering excellence,” says Audi’s managing director, Joerg Hofmann, citing innovations such as the canting keel, the winged keel and extensive use of carbon fibre, kevlar and titanium to name a few.

“Similarly, Audi, with its 100 years of innovation is also a leading brand in its field with technologies such as TDI, FSI, multitronic and quattro,” he added.
