Syd Fischer’s Ragamuffin has taken the double in the inaugural Audi Sydney Offshore Newcastle Yacht Race after Mr Beaks Ribs’ chances of an outright IRC win vanished with last night’s light winds.

Sydney Harbour’s regular twilight racers got a little more bang for their buck tonight, one literally when they narrowly missed being covered in wadding from the cannon that signalled the 6pm start of the inaugural Audi Sydney Offshore Newcastle Yacht Race.

This morning’s light E/SE breezes are in stark contrast to strong overnight winds and heavy rain that resulted in two casualties in the Audi Sydney Offshore Newcastle Yacht Race which began from Sydney Harbour at 6pm last evening.

Graeme Wood’s TP52 Wot Yot might be just holding out Syd Fischer’s Ragamuffin in the chase for line honours in the inaugural Audi Sydney Offshore Newcastle Yacht Race but it won’t be enough to stop one of the pillars of ocean racing in this country from claiming his ninth Blue Water Pointscore Series (BWPS) win over 45 years of racing.

Syd Fisher’s TP52 Ragamuffin has taken line honours in the inaugural Audi Sydney Offshore Newcastle Yacht Race, beating Graeme Wood’s TP52 Wot Yot by just two minutes across the line and cementing Fischer’s place in history with a ninth Blue Water Champion crown.
